Many years ago, my wife and I went deep sea fishing off the coast of the Atlantic. We were on a boat named Hungry Eyes. After catching some big Cobia, I asked the captain about the boat’s name. He explained how, for years, he had worked as a mate, dreaming of owning his own ship. Every day, he came to work with “hungry eyes”—hungry for his future and what he knew he could achieve.
That story stuck with me. Hungry eyes. What do your eyes say about you? Are you hungry for something bigger, or are you satisfied with where you are? In running, this balance is key. There’s always a hunger for improvement, for a new goal, but being “ravishing” can lead to burnout. Strive for that balance—stay hungry enough to grow, but wise enough to enjoy the journey.
What does your hunger look like in your running life? Maybe it’s a new distance, a new pace, or simply a stronger, healthier you. Whatever it is, keep your eyes focused and your heart driven. Let that hunger fuel you.
Best wishes on your running goals,
Hungry Eyes
